| Abstract: | Ta/Ti3Al(Si)C2-TiC layered composites with different ceramic-to-metal layer thickness ratios were fabricated from stacked preceramic papers filled with MAX-phase powder (Ti3Al(Si)C2) and Ta metal foils. The composites were fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) at a temperature of 1150 °C and a pressure of 50 MPa for 5 min. The microstructure and phase composition were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, respectively. The mechanical properties were studied using bending tests. It was found that composites with architecture 1/1, 1/2, 1/3 have a quasi-ductile fracture pattern |
