Abstract: The paper studied the physical and mechanical properties of ceramics based on zirconium carbonitride, consolidated by hot pressing. Consolidation was carried out at a temperature of 2000 ℃. It has been established that the complication of the crystal chemical structure leads to an increase in mechanical properties, but also leads to an increase in the porosity of the samples. During the research, such mechanical properties as the Vickers hardness of the samples and the elastic modulus of the samples were determined. It was found that among the studied samples, ceramics with an equimolar composition of zirconium carbide and zirconium nitride have the highest hardness. Moreover, this sample had the highest porosity and the highest elastic modulus
